Species Description

**Description:** A small understory tree with a distinct horizontal, "pagoda-like" branching pattern and flat clusters of white flowers.
**Size:** 15 to 25 feet tall.
**Wildlife Value:** Produces dark blue fruit on vibrant red stalks in late summer, which is high-energy fuel for migratory songbirds.
**Identification:** Leaves are crowded at the ends of branches, making them look whorled.
**Habitat:** Shaded understory of deciduous forests and along stream banks.
