Species Description
**Description:** A State Endangered heron with brown-and-buff streaks designed for perfect camouflage in marsh grasses.
**Size & Weight:** 23–33 inches long with a 3.5-foot wingspan. Weighs 1–2 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Monomorphic; males and females look identical.
**Behavior:** Famous for the camouflaged "reed pose," pointing the bill straight up. Their call is a deep, rhythmic "booming" sound.
**Habitat:** Large, dense cattail marshes and wetlands; look for them during migration at Buzzard Swamp.
