Species Description
**Description:** A plump, short-legged shorebird of the woods with huge eyes and a long, sensitive bill; also known as the "Timberdoodle."
**Size & Weight:** 10–12 inches long. Weighs 5–8 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females are significantly larger and have longer bills than males.
**Behavior:** Famous for the "sky dance" courtship flight at dusk. Walks with a rhythmic rocking motion to vibrate the soil and flush earthworms.
**Habitat:** Managed young forests, alder swales, and abandoned clearings.
