**Description:** An aquatic insect that famously swims upside down and uses its long, hair-fringed hind legs like oars.
**Size:** 0.5 to 0.6 inches long.
**Behavior:** Carries a bubble of air under its wings like a scuba tank to breathe underwater. Active predators of small insects and tiny minnows.
**Caution:** Capable of delivering a sharp "bite" (poke) with their rostrum that feels similar to a bee sting.
**Habitat:** Quiet, still waters of beaver ponds and sheltered reservoir coves.
