Species Description
**Description:** A stocky, dark-eyed owl with no "ear" tufts, featuring horizontal bars on the neck and vertical bars on the belly.
**Size & Weight:** 17–20 inches long with a wingspan up to 43 inches. Weighs 1–2.5 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females are larger and heavier than males.
**Behavior:** Famous for the rhythmic call: "Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?" They are the most vocal owls during cloudy days.
**Habitat:** Large tracts of mature deciduous forest and wooded swamps along the Allegheny and Clarion Rivers.
