Species Description
**Description:** A blue-gray bird with a large head, shaggy crest, and a sturdy, sharp beak. Females are more colorful, featuring a rusty-orange belly band.
**Habitat:** Clear, open running water throughout the ANF; requires vertical earthen banks for nesting.
**Behavior:** Patrols territory with a loud, dry rattling call. Hunts by hovering over water before performing a head-first dive to spear fish or crayfish.
