Species Description

**Description:** A stunning spring warbler with bold black and white stripes over its entire body; it acts more like a nuthatch than a songbird.
**Size & Weight:** 4.3–5.1 inches long. Weighs 0.3–0.5 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males have a black throat and cheek; females have a white throat and paler cheeks.
**Behavior:** The only warbler in the region that forages by creeping up and down tree trunks and large limbs to find insects in bark.
**Habitat:** Mature deciduous and mixed forests with abundant large, rough-barked trees.
