**Description:** The aquatic larvae of midges; they are bright red due to the presence of hemoglobin, which allows them to live in very low-oxygen environments.

**Behavior:** They live in silty tubes on the bottom and are a primary food source for many reservoir fish.
**Identification:** Look for the thin, segmented red body. They move with a distinct "figure-eight" thrashing motion.
**Habitat:** Soft mud at the bottom of the reservoir and stagnant pools.
