Species Description

**Description:** A small dabbling duck; males are recognized by a white crescent on the face and chalky-blue patches on the front of the wings.
**Size & Weight:** 15–16 inches long. Weighs roughly 0.8–1 lb.
**Habitat:** Prefers very shallow water in marshes and muddy reservoir coves.
**Behavior:** Highly migratory; they are among the first waterfowl to head south in the late summer and early autumn.
