Common Bluegill

Species Description
**Description:** A flat, disc-shaped sunfish with a small mouth and a prominent dark "ear" spot on the gill flap.
**Size & Weight:** Typically 6–10 inches long. Weighs 0.5–1 lb.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Breeding males develop a brilliant orange or copper-colored breast and darker overall body.
**Habitat:** Social fish found in large schools within the reservoir and slow river pools.
**Behavior:** Can judge distances accurately by looking straight ahead with both eyes. Males build and guard circular nests in the sand.
