Species Description
**Description:** A small, chunky hawk with a broad, white-banded tail and pointed wings. They are long-distance migrants.
**Size & Weight:** 13–17 inches long with a 3-foot wingspan. Weighs 0.6–1.1 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females are larger than males.
**Behavior:** Famous for forming massive "kettles" (swirling groups) of thousands of birds during fall migration. They are quiet and secretive hunters of the deep woods.
**Habitat:** Deep interior deciduous and mixed forests.
