Species Description

**Description:** The blind, filter-feeding larval stage of the lamprey. They look like dark, worm-like creatures with no eyes or fins.
**Size:** 4 to 6 inches long.
**Life Cycle:** Spend up to seven years buried in mud acting as "vacuum cleaners." After transforming to adults, they never eat again.
**Behavior:** Beneficial native species and indicator of stable, unpolluted stream substrate.
**Habitat:** Buried in the soft mud and silt of clean stream banks.
