Species Description

**Description:** Fast-swimming aquatic larvae with hairy front legs used to filter organic debris from the current.
**Size:** 0.5 to 0.75 inches long.
**Identification:** Known as "Slate Drakes" by anglers. They are streamlined and dart through the water like tiny minnows.
**Behavior:** They are essential food for wild Brook Trout and are highly sensitive to siltation in forest streams.
**Habitat:** Clean, highly oxygenated riffles of mountain streams.
