Species Description

**Description:** A robust oak with massive acorns featuring a unique, shaggy "burr" or mossy fringe on the acorn cup.
**Size:** Grows 70–90 feet tall with a wide, spreading crown.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Monoecious; individual trees produce both male and female flowers.
**Conservation:** Uncommon; a slow-growing and very long-lived species.
**Habitat:** Found on limestone soils and moist, well-drained slopes.
