Species Description
**Description:** A sturdy minnow with a specialized cartilaginous "cap" on its lower jaw used for scraping algae off stones.
**Size & Weight:** Typically 4–6 inches long.
**Identification:** Features a blunt snout and a brownish-olive back with dark scales. Breeding males develop large, sharp tubercles on their heads.
**Behavior:** Known as the "stone-roller" for their habit of using their snouts to move small rocks while building large mound-nests in stream riffles.
**Habitat:** Clear, shallow forest streams with rocky or gravelly bottoms.
