Channel Catfish

Species Description
**Description:** A sleek, deeply forked-tail catfish; usually olive-gray with dark spots and four pairs of sensitive whiskers.
**Size & Weight:** Typically 15–24 inches. Weighs 2–15 lbs or more.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** During spawning, males develop a darker, blue-tinted head that appears muscular.
**Behavior:** Incredible sense of smell and taste; their entire body is covered in taste buds. Most active after rainstorms.
**Habitat:** Common throughout the Allegheny River and reservoir.
