**Description:** A slender, silvery fish with large eyes and a deeply forked tail; related to whitefish.
**Size & Weight:** Typically 8–12 inches long. Weighs less than 1 lb.
**Conservation:** Rare / Species of Concern. Highly sensitive to temperature; they must have access to water below 50°F year-round.
**Wildlife Value:** A critical forage species for large lake trout and other deep-water predators.
**Habitat:** Pelagic (open water) specialists of the Allegheny Reservoir.
