Species Description
**Description:** Large, heavy-bodied fish with brassy-gold scales and two pairs of sensitive "whiskers" (barbels) at the corners of the mouth.
**Size & Weight:** Typically 16–30 inches. Can weigh 5–20 lbs, with some exceeding 40 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females are generally larger-bodied than males.
**Behavior:** Extremely hardy and intelligent bottom-feeders that root through mud for insects and vegetation. They can survive in low-oxygen water.
**Habitat:** Found in the slower, warmer sections of the Allegheny Reservoir.
