Cooper's Hawk

Species Description
**Description:** A medium-sized forest hawk with a slate-grey back and a distinct black "cap." They feature a long, rounded tail with a white tip.
**Size & Weight:** 14–20 inches long with a 2.5–3 foot wingspan. Weighs 0.7–1.5 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females are much larger and heavier than males.
**Behavior:** Masters of ambush that use short wings and a long tail to maneuver through thick branches at high speed.
**Identification:** Similar to the Sharp-shinned Hawk but larger with a more rounded tail and a larger head.
**Habitat:** Dense hemlock stands and forest edges.
