**Description:** A massive dragonfly with a black body and bold yellow markings; one of the largest dragonfly species in the region.
**Size:** 3 to 3.5 inches in length.
**Behavior:** Fierce predators that specialize in hunting other dragonflies and large insects. They often perch on high twigs overlooking the water.
**Identification:** Large, bright yellow-and-black striped thorax and a slightly clubbed tail.
**Habitat:** Found near larger, clear forest streams and the Allegheny River.
