Species Description

**Description:** A butterfly with orange-and-black wings and ragged edges; perfectly mimics a dried leaf when its wings are closed.
**Size:** Wingspan of 1.75 to 2 inches.
**Identification:** Named for a tiny, silver "comma" mark on the underside of the hindwing.
**Life Cycle:** One of the few butterflies that hibernate as adults, emerging on warm winter days.
**Behavior:** Prefers rotting fruit and tree sap over flower nectar.
**Habitat:** Moist deciduous woods and shaded forest floors.
