Species Description

**Description:** A brownish-gray rabbit with a distinct white, puffy "cotton" tail. They feature large ears and large eyes set on the sides of the head for a wide field of vision.
**Size & Weight:** 13–17 inches in length. Weigh 2–4 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females are often slightly larger than males.
**Life Cycle:** Highly prolific; kits are born blind and helpless in shallow "forms" (depressions) in tall grass but grow rapidly, leaving the nest in 3 weeks.
**Habitat:** Common in brushy edges, meadows, and suburban clearings throughout the region.
**Behavior:** Famous for their "zigzag" running pattern used to evade predators like coyotes and hawks.
