Species Description
**Description:** A bronzy-brown beetle with cream-colored markings and large, bulging eyes.
**Size:** 0.4 to 0.5 inches long.
**Behavior:** Among the fastest insects in the world. They run so fast they momentarily go "blind" and must stop to let their eyes catch up.
**Identification:** Highly active during the heat of the day. They take flight quickly when approached, landing a few feet away.
**Habitat:** Sunny, sandy beaches and silt flats along the Allegheny River and reservoir.
