Species Description
**Description:** A large finch with a massive greenish-yellow bill. Males have a bright yellow forehead and body with black-and-white wings.
**Size & Weight:** 7–8.5 inches long. Weighs 1.9–2.6 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males are bright yellow; females are silver-gray with yellow washes on the neck and sides.
**Behavior:** Highly social nomadic "irruptive" migrants that travel in noisy flocks. They are famous for their ability to crush heavy seeds.
**Habitat:** Mature coniferous and mixed forests; frequent winter visitors to campgrounds.
