Species Description

**Description:** A small, bottom-dwelling fish with a broad fan-like tail and exceptional camouflage patterns.
**Size:** 2.5 to 4 inches long.
**Behavior:** Lacks a functional swim bladder, allowing it to stay anchored in heavy currents. They are "sit-and-wait" hunters of aquatic insect larvae.
**Identification:** Features 10–15 dark horizontal lines along the sides. Breeding males develop bulbous knobs on their dorsal fins.
**Habitat:** Shallow, fast-moving riffles of forest streams, usually hidden under flat rocks.
