Species Description
**Description:** A medium-sized dabbling duck, understated in color with a steep forehead and a distinctive white wing patch (speculum) visible in flight.
**Size & Weight:** 19–23 inches long. Weighs 1.5–2.5 lbs.
**Habitat:** Shallow wetlands, beaver ponds, and the quiet backwaters of the Allegheny Reservoir.
**Behavior:** Often found in pairs or small groups; they feed by "tipping up" to reach submerged aquatic plants.
