Green Darner Dragonfly

Species Description
**Description:** One of the largest and fastest dragonflies, featuring a bright green thorax and a long blue or gray abdomen.
**Size:** 3 to 3.5 inches in length.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males have a brilliant blue abdomen, while females and juveniles are primarily reddish-brown or green.
**Behavior:** Known as "Mosquito Hawks," they catch and eat hundreds of flying insects daily. They are one of the few dragonfly species that migrate long distances.
**Habitat:** Patrolling the shorelines of the Allegheny Reservoir and slow-moving river coves.
