Species Description
**Description:** A moth whose "inchworm" caterpillars are significant consumers of Eastern Hemlock needles.
**Size:** Wingspan of 1.2 to 1.5 inches.
**Life Cycle:** Population cycles occasionally explode; caterpillars can make entire stands of hemlock look scorched by fire.
**Identification:** Adults are relatively plain and light-colored. Caterpillars are best identified by their looping, "measuring" walk.
**Habitat:** Dense hemlock stands of the plateau.
