Species Description
**Description:** A tiny, aphid-like insect that covers itself in white, waxy "wool" at the base of hemlock needles.
**Size:** Microscopic (less than 1/16 inch).
**Invasive Impact:** The primary threat to the Eastern Hemlock. They suck sap, causing needle drop and eventual tree death over 4–10 years.
**Behavior:** Most active in winter. They reproduce asexually, allowing for rapid, explosive population growth.
**Habitat:** Restricted to Eastern Hemlocks in cool, shaded ravines.
