Species Description

**Description:** A bright yellow bird of the understory; males have a distinct black "hood" framing a yellow face.
**Size & Weight:** 4.7–5.5 inches long. Weighs 0.3–0.4 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males have the complete black hood; females have an olive-green "shadow" of a hood.
**Behavior:** Known for a loud "I-want-to-rent-a-video" song and the habit of flashing white tail feathers while hopping through brush.
**Habitat:** Mature deciduous forests with canopy gaps and thick shrub layers like Mountain Laurel.
