Species Description
**Description:** A large, primitive fern named for the "gap" in the middle of the frond where fertile leaflets occur and eventually fall off.
**Size:** Grows 2 to 3 feet tall.
**Identification:** Grows in large, spreading circular clumps. Sterile leaflets have rounded tips, distinguishing them from Cinnamon Ferns.
**Behavior:** An ancient species that has remained virtually unchanged for over 180 million years.
**Habitat:** Moist woods and shaded edges of forest roads throughout the plateau.
