Species Description
**Description:** A small, thick-billed songbird of the high Arctic that migrates to the Allegheny Plateau in winter.
**Size & Weight:** 6 inches long. Weighs 0.8–1.2 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males in spring have striking black faces and rufous napes; in winter, both sexes are streaky brown.
**Conservation:** Common winter visitor; look for them in open agricultural fields on the forest outskirts.
**Habitat:** Open fields, reclaimed log landings, and snowy meadows.
