Species Description
**Description:** A living fossil with a long, needle-like snout filled with sharp teeth and armor-hard ganoid scales.
**Size & Weight:** Typically 25–48 inches long. Weighs 1–7 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females grow larger and live longer than males.
**Behavior:** Can survive in stagnant, low-oxygen water by gulping air at the surface. Their eggs are highly toxic to humans and birds.
**Habitat:** Found in the slower sections of the Allegheny River and the reservoir.
