**Description:** One of the most beautiful and delicate ferns in the forest, featuring a circular, fan-like arrangement of fronds.
**Size:** Grows 1 to 2 feet tall.
**Identification:** Features thin, jet-black central stems. The fronds have an incredible ability to shed water, remaining dry during heavy rain.
**Habits:** A sign of high-quality, undisturbed "legacy" forest soil.
**Habitat:** Rich, moist deciduous woods and at the base of shaded slopes.
