Species Description

**Description:** A small, secretive catfish with a slender body and a continuous fin that wraps around the tail.
**Size:** Typically 3 to 5 inches long.
**Behavior:** Like other madtoms, they have mildly venomous spines in their pectoral fins used for defense against larger predatory fish.
**Identification:** Features a dark margin on the tail and dorsal fins. They are nocturnal hunters that hide under rocks by day.
**Habitat:** Found under flat rocks in clear, fast-flowing streams with high water quality.
