Species Description
**Description:** A medium-sized butterfly with "squared-off" forewings and complex orange-and-black patterns.
**Size:** Wingspan of 1.4 to 2.0 inches.
**Behavior:** Flies with a quick, low fluttering motion. Produces multiple generations each summer, visible from May through September.
**Identification:** The outer margin of the forewing is distinctly straight or "clipped."
**Habitat:** Damp grassy openings, marsh edges, and grassy reservoir margins.
