Species Description

**Description:** Iconic bright orange butterfly with black veins and white-spotted margins.
**Size:** Wingspan ranges from 3.5 to 4 inches.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males possess a small black scent patch (pouch) on a vein of each hindwing and have thinner wing veins than females.
**Life Cycle:** Features four distinct stages. The larva (caterpillar) is striped yellow, black, and white. The pupa (chrysalis) is jade green with gold studs.
**Habitat:** Found near Milkweed in meadows and forest openings.
**Behavior:** Famous for a multi-generational 3,000-mile migration to central Mexico.
