Species Description

**Description:** The PA State Flower. An evergreen shrub producing spectacular clusters of cup-shaped pink and white blossoms.
**Size:** Typically grows 6–15 feet tall.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Hermaphroditic flowers with specialized spring-loaded stamens.
**Conservation:** Common and protected as a state symbol.
**Habitat:** Rocky ridges and acidic upland soils.
**Behavior:** All parts are toxic if ingested; provides essential winter cover for Ruffed Grouse.
