**Description:** A medium-sized, grayish-brown salamander with a light-colored line extending from the eye to the corner of the mouth.
**Size:** 2.5 to 5.5 inches long.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males develop a small, fleshy protrusion (mental gland) under the chin during the breeding season.
**Behavior:** Primarily nocturnal; they are often found under rocks or logs very close to the waterโs edge.
**Identification:** Features a tail that is noticeably keeled (knife-like) for swimming.
**Habitat:** Found in or near small-to-medium forest streams.
