(Lithobates pipiens)

Northern Leopard Frog

Species Description

**Description:** A green or brown frog covered in large, dark, circular spots with light-colored borders.
**Size:** 2 to 4.5 inches in length.
**Identification:** Known as the "meadow frog." Unlike the Pickerel Frog, its spots are circular and randomly distributed.
**Behavior:** Uses its eyeballs to help swallow—when it blinks, the eyes pull down into the mouth to push food into the throat.
**Habitat:** Damp grassy fields and floodplains; prefers open areas near the reservoir over dense forest.
