Species Description

**Description:** A medium-sized sandpiper with a distinct, heavily streaked brown breast that ends abruptly against a white belly.
**Size & Weight:** 8–9.5 inches long. Weighs 1.5–3.5 oz.
**Behavior:** Males have a specialized throat sac they inflate to make low hooting sounds during breeding displays in the Arctic.
**Habitat:** Often found in wet grassy areas and mudflats during migration through the plateau.
**Behavior:** Typically less skittish than other shorebirds, allowing for closer observation.
