Species Description

**Description:** A small, masterfully camouflaged butterfly with intricate brown-and-gray wing underside patterns that mimic pine bark.
**Size:** Wingspan of 0.75 to 1.25 inches.
**Life Cycle:** Caterpillars are specialized needle-mimics, appearing green with white stripes to blend with host trees.
**Identification:** When wings are closed, they are nearly invisible against a pine branch. Features "frosted" white markings on hindwings.
**Habitat:** Strictly limited to areas with White Pine or Pitch Pine.
