Species Description
**Description:** A small, streaky brown finch with sharp, pointed bills and subtle yellow patches on its wings and tail.
**Size & Weight:** 4.3–5.5 inches long. Weighs 0.4–0.6 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males typically have more extensive yellow in the wings and tail than females.
**Behavior:** Nomadic "irruptive" migrants that appear in massive numbers some years and vanish in others. Highly social at winter feeders.
**Habitat:** Coniferous and mixed forests; frequently seen in birch trees.
