Species Description

**Description:** A giant silk moth with tan-to-cinnamon wings and massive yellow-and-blue eyespots on the hindwings.
**Size:** Wingspan of 4 to 5.5 inches.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males have larger, bushier antennae used to track female pheromones.
**Life Cycle:** Adults lack mouths and do not eat; they live only 7–10 days. The larva is a large, bright green caterpillar with silver and red tubercles.
**Behavior:** When threatened, they flip their front wings forward to reveal their "giant eyes" to startle predators.
**Habitat:** Hardwood forests and forest edges throughout the region.
