Species Description
**Description:** Highly intelligent mammals recognized by their black "bandit mask" and rings on a bushy tail. Their front paws are extremely dexterous, functioning like human hands.
**Size & Weight:** 16โ28 inches long. Weigh 8โ20 lbs, though they can reach 30+ lbs in autumn before winter dormancy.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males are typically 10โ15% heavier than females.
**Life Cycle:** Young (kits) are born in spring and remain in family groups through their first winter.
**Habitat:** Highly adaptable; found near water and campgrounds throughout the ANF.
**Behavior:** Nocturnal; they are famous for "dousing" (washing) their food in water to increase the tactile sensitivity of their paws.
