**Description:** A shrub of the high plateau producing conical white flower clusters followed by brilliant red berries in early summer.
**Size:** Grows 8 to 12 feet tall.
**Wildlife Value:** Berries are a high-energy food for early migratory birds. One of the first shrubs to leaf out in spring.
**Identification:** Distinguished from Common Elderberry by its earlier fruit and conical (rather than flat) clusters.
**Habitat:** Cool, high-elevation ridges and frost pockets.
