Species Description
**Description:** A dense coniferous evergreen with scale-like leaves and a distinct, pleasant "cedar" scent. Technically a species of Juniper.
**Size:** Grows 30 to 60 feet tall with a conical or columnar shape.
**Wildlife Value:** The small blue berry-like cones are a critical winter food for Cedar Waxwings. Wood is naturally resistant to rot and insects.
**Identification:** Features reddish-brown bark that peels in long fibrous strips.
**Habitat:** Abandoned fields and forest edges; a common "pioneer" tree in cleared land.
