Species Description

**Description:** A tiny, active bird with a blue-gray back and a bold black-and-orange "fire" crown.
**Size & Weight:** 3.1–4.3 inches long. Weighs 0.2 oz.
**Behavior:** One of the smallest birds in North America. Stays in the forest during winter by eating insect eggs and hibernating larvae.
**Habitat:** Mature coniferous and mixed forests.
