**Description:** A small, brilliant red dragonfly with a distinct pale, yellowish-white face.
**Size:** 1.0 to 1.4 inches long.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Mature males are bright red; females and young males are golden-brown.
**Behavior:** Active late-summer hunter that perches on low vegetation, darting out to grab prey before returning to the same spot.
**Habitat:** Low vegetation near pond edges and quiet reservoir coves.
