Species Description
**Description:** A stunning songbird; breeding males are brilliant blood-red with jet-black wings, while females are a dull olive-yellow.
**Size & Weight:** 6.3–6.7 inches long. Weighs 0.8–1.3 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Extreme. Males are bright red; females and non-breeding males are olive-green for camouflage in the foliage.
**Behavior:** Long-distance migrants that winter in the Andean foothills. They move slowly in the high canopy, often catching bees mid-air.
**Habitat:** Mature oak and beech forest interiors throughout the plateau.
